Dr. Nikhil Dhawan
Dr. Nikhil Dhawan working as Assistant Professor, at the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of technology, IIT-Roorkee is a young dynamic faculty and researcher currently working in the field of mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. He has to his credit, five sponsored research projects funded by various government organizations and has published 45 international journal papers. He is among very few young researchers working in the high priority areas of electronic waste recycling for recovery of base metals and rare earth elements and processing of low-grade iron ores and silicate rocks for potassium values.
He is an elected member of Indian National Young Academy of Sciences. He is member of study steering committee on “Technology solutions for maximum value recovery from Electronic Wastes” approved by NITI Aayog. He has received the AC Datta MESA Award (Institution of Engineers, 2016) and Khare award (2016) from the Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (IIME) in the research domain. Also, the prestigious Uchatara Avishkar Yojana and Early Career Research awards were received from the MHRD-MoEF consortium and SERB. Based on the research domain, he has been consultant to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited for technical due diligence work for the recycling of lithium-ion batteries. He is also a member of the APC committee of the Ministry of AYUSH and assists in exploring the appropriate minerals and their processing for use in Ayurveda medicines.
